NOTE FROM PASTOR MARK As lead pastor, Pastor Mark leads the church within the boundaries set by the BOG. On Sunday night, I arrived back from General Council with the Christian & Missionary Alliance. This takes place every two years and has around 3,000 people in attendance. The purpose is multifold: to hear the vison of the President and whole C&MA, to take care of official business, to send International Workers (we sent 62 more this year! Praise God!), and to reconnect with people. President Stumbo presented a compelling vison of change and conversation in three main areas, the structuring of missions, the role of women in leadership, and revisiting our doctrinal position as a denomination. On top of all this, there were amazing times of worship, incredible speakers, great seminars, and a sense that God is at work in significant ways across the C&MA. I am encouraged to hear the focus of streamlining to be better launched on mission and to hear a clear call to embrace God’s heart for a multi-ethnic church. If you would like to watch any of the sessions, they are available here: https://www.cmalliance.org/events/2019/council/ I believe God has positioned us in Montgomery County for such a time as this. To embrace God’s call to be a church for all people and to be transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and launched on mission. May we pray and pursue God’s heart for our neighbors and nations. PRAYER We want to pray eagerly as prayer is first about a relationship with God and second transforming our world. DAC was a satellite location for the district prayer night held on May 10th. Prayer gatherings at the church will continue to be planned on a monthly basis, while the prayer room is open on Sunday mornings if you would like to pray for the services as they are held. Prayer requests and praises collected from the Connect Cards are sent out weekly to those who have signed up to receive them. The worship and A/V team do a great job with providing an environment for this local body of believers to worship together. We are excited to be adding new members to the worship and A/V team. If you would like to be a part of helping others worship Jesus, contact Hector Ayerdiz or Matthew Sutton. LOCAL - DAC sponsored the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless Annual Gala and was represented by Pastor Mark and Nami Trinkl, and Terrance and Luz Ragland. Joining them at the table were Jen Ashby, Gigi Goin (Milk Lady Markets), Bill Hodges, and Erica Coady (Common Root Farm). An exciting intersection of our two local partnerships! The Derwood Farmers Market is in full swing and is the place to be in the neighborhood on Saturday mornings. Relationships are forming and good will is growing with our community. There are so many ways to be part of what God is doing: pray for the market, volunteer at the market, shop and mingle at the market, promote the market on social media and with yard signs, etc. GLOBAL - The missions team met on May 6 and began planning for our next Global Encounters on August 3 - 11, 2019. DAC attenders gave over $2000 on Great Commission Sunday, May 19 to help send 62 new Alliance workers to the ends of the earth. Pastor Mark and Jen Ashby got to catch up with Jesse Blaine on May 23. DAC financially supports Jesse, who serves with Anglican Missionaries and Senders in Cambodia. Jen Ashby – [email protected] EXPLORERS CHILDREN'S MINISTRY A place for children to explore God’s world and Word and to make friends. DAC ladies celebrated mom Bridget Unger and baby Tenley at a shower on May 18. We love having these gatherings for a family's first new child as DAC attenders! Bethany Clemmons - [email protected] VISION YOUTH MINISTRY A place to meet Jesus, continue to know Jesus & be encouraged to share Jesus. The month of May brought a new study series for our youth students. Over the last few weeks, Vision has been reading and studying the book of Acts and the beginning of the church. Also, the LIFE2019 students held a yard sale fundraiser. Thanks for everyone who donated and/or purchased items! Over $500 was raised! Tim Allen – [email protected] SMALL GROUPS Our primary venue for making friends, inviting God's transformation through Scripture and prayer, and living on mission together. Our last spring semester subject-based group wrapped up, but our Women's Crafting Group, an activity-based group, continues to meet and has added another leader. Welcome, Elizabeth LeBarron. Registration is open for a summer semester subject-based group. See our website to register. Jen Ashby – [email protected] CONNECTIONS TEAM We desire authentic community and want to create space for transparency and real relationships. Whether you’re a regular attender or first-time guest, you always want to feel warmly welcomed. And knowing you are welcomed is the first step towards cultivating authentic community. If you enjoy inviting friends to your own home and meeting new people, consider joining this great team by contacting Wendy Geraci. Wendy Geraci – [email protected] BUILDINGS & GROUNDS God has given us a great location and property. We strive to be good stewards of these gifts. Thank you for everyone who continues to serve and take on small and large projects along the way! It is greatly appreciated. If you would like to help with B&G, please let Mark Neely know. ALLIANCE GENERAL COUNCIL 2019 At the end of the month, Mark Trinkl and Jen Ashby headed down to Orlando, Florida for the C&MA’s General Council. This gathering of the Alliance family takes place every two years and it’s a time for vision casting, business sessions, and equipping the leaders of our denomination. On May 31, Jen was elected to the Board of Directors. This is a volunteer role that Jen will fulfill while still working full-time at DAC. Congratulations Jen! LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
We continue to pursue apprenticing people in all areas of ministry. We desire to be a multiplying church, and to do this we must have a multiplying mindset of training and releasing more people into ministry. If you are not currently serving, we would love to help you discover your giftedness and where God would like to place you. Check out this page on our website. STAFF The staff manages ministry teams and meets weekly. The staff continues to meet on a regular basis for prayer and planning. Please pray alongside us that God will work in supernatural ways through DAC. ELDERS The Elders shepherd and give spiritual oversight to DAC and meet on a monthly basis. There is a great group of Elders who are serving and praying for you faithfully. If you ever would like prayer for any reason, we would love to pray for you. Mark Trinkl – [email protected] BOARD OF GOVERNANCE (BOG) The Board of Governance (BOG) sets boundaries for the Pastor and meets minimum quarterly. The Board met on May 13 to have prayer and conversations about policies and a name change for DAC. We will meet again on June 10th for our quarterly meeting to talk through accountability and updating the Guiding Principles. It is exciting to be part of both a unified team and one willing to have tough conversations. Please pray for continued unity of spirit and the bond of peace.
