NOTE FROM PASTOR MARK As lead pastor, Pastor Mark leads the church within the boundaries set by the BOG. We are already two months into the excitement and anxiety of a new decade. With the coronavirus, election and general state of the world, it is easy to give into fear and despair but instead, as followers of Jesus who have eternal life and hope beyond this world, we should be the ones, not cowering but shining, not hiding, but proclaiming, not worried, but confident in God who holds the past present and future. I am reminded of Psalm 46:1-2 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea." Take confidence my friends, God is in control and he is working out his plans even in the midst of challenging times. PRAYER On February 21st, we hosted the District Prayer gathering. Please continue to pray for all the churches and God working throughout our district. On February 26th, we began 40 days of prayer for spiritual renewal as we move towards Easter. Join us on Facebook and through signing up to receive daily prayer encouragement. Every Sunday, the prayer room next to the sanctuary is open during both gatherings for anyone who would like to pray over the gatherings as they happen. Praises and prayer requests are sent out weekly from the requests collected at each gathering, and if you would like a request to be sent out during the week, you can submit a prayer or praise on the church website from the prayer page under the connect tab. Prayer Leaders - Eric and Joella Liddle WORSHIP We want to worship in all we do as we are designed to worship God as a way of life. The worship and A/V team do a great job with providing an environment for people to fully engage with God and one another. Once a month we are doing an acoustic Sunday to provide a different worship experience. I hope you have enjoyed the last two. It is great to hear all the voices singing! The worship team is more and more reflecting our heart to be a multi-ethnic and multi-generational church! If you would like to be a part of helping others to fully engage in worship of Jesus, contact Hector Ayerdiz or Matthew Sutton. The Tiny Explorers space got a refresh this month, and we started a refresh on the large group room for Explorers 1 & 2. Preparations are in full swing for our team training on March 21, "#sharejesus with Kids" with Erika Thornton. Volunteers, parents and others who love kids can sign up here: https://www.neighborhoodc.org/sharejesus-with-kids.html. That weekend will also be our official rebrand to "Neighborhood Kids." Jen Ashby and Melanie Neely are working hard on the spring carnival scheduled for April 11, at which time we are expecting 450 children and their grown-ups. VISION YOUTH MINISTRY (6th - 12th Grade) A place to meet Jesus, continue to know Jesus & be encouraged to share Jesus. On January 12, Neighborhood Youth began to meet on Sundays from 7pm-9pm in the worship center. We are going through the parables of Jesus. The new space provides different opportunities and growth potential. Keep encouraging your teenagers to come and invite their friends to be a part of neighborhood youth. Tim Allen – [email protected] Neighborhood Groups Our five subject based groups and one activity group continue to meet with an emphasis on making friends, experiencing transformation, and living on mission together. If you'd like to jump in mid-stream to one of our groups, register here: https://www.neighborhoodc.org/adult-small-groups.html. CONNECTIONS The coffee area got a refresh with some new tables this month, and the follow up team is equipped with new "Neighborhood Church" mugs to deliver to our first time guests. At the suggestion of the Connections leader, Wendy Geraci, we've installed an informational wall on the first floor as a resource for those who are here for things like the spring carnival and farmers market. MARRIAGE CONFERENCE On Feb 15, Mark and Nami hosted a one day marriage conference “I Still Do”. It was a great day for people to invest and prepare for marriage. MISSIONS On February 9, we had a missions highlight in our worship gatherings about one of the couples we are supporting through the Alliance, Dave and Heather, who serve in the Middle East. The missions team met on February 10 and finalized plans for our Global Encounters missions emphasis week. The Paris mission trip team met on February 24 to pray and practice sharing our Jesus stories in three minutes or less. On the local side, Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless continues to use our property from time to time for staff meetings, and Jen Ashby is serving on the MCCH Gala planning committee. Dupree & Karina Johnson and Luke Wong have joined Jen Ashby in forming a sort of Derwood Farmers Market leadership team. This team is working hard to maximize the impact of the third season of the market, which opens April 18. Join us for an informational and training meeting on March 29 after the second worship gathering. BUILDING & GROUNDS God has given us a great location and property. We strive to be good stewards of these gifts. Mark your calendar for a work day on March 28th. We want to have our property looking great for the Spring Carnival, Easter and the Farmers Market. Thank you to all who invest their time maintaining and improving the property. If you have interest in handy work and would like to be a part of this vital team, contact Mark Neely. Mark Neely - [email protected] LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT God has created you in a unique way and given you skills and abilities to express this to others through the community and church. We would love to see you using your time, talent, and treasure in an area of ministry you are passionate about. We desire to be a multiplying church, and to do this we must have a multiplying mindset of training and releasing more people into ministry. If you are not currently serving, we would love to help you discover your giftedness and where God would like to place you. One way to do this, is to sign up for the upcoming Intro to Neighborhood class or to check out this page on our website. STAFF The staff manages ministry teams and meets weekly. The staff continues to meet on a regular basis for prayer and planning. The staff has been busy with all the excitement and challenges of a name change and rebranding alongside all of the ministry that happens on a weekly basis. We are thankful for Tom Wissink volunteering in the office and pray for continued unity in the midst of transitions. ELDERS The Elders shepherd and give spiritual oversight to Neighborhood and meet on a monthly basis. There is a great group of Elders who are serving and praying for you faithfully. In January, Eric Zetterberg stepped off of the Elder Board and Andrew Gackenbach and Jim Mullen were voted in as Elders. We thank Eric for his faithful service over many many years and are grateful for how God is raising up more godly leaders in this season. If you ever would like prayer for any reason, we would love to pray for you. Our next meeting Is March 7th.
