Note from Pastor Mark As lead pastor, Pastor Mark leads the church within the boundaries set by the BOG. Thank you for being part of all that happened in September. There was a full schedule, and it was great to see all of the participation. It began with a church-wide assessment by Bill Hoyt and his team. The results came back that from 2011 till now, DAC went from a descent to death and his now functioning at peak efficiently. God has worked countless miracles in our midst and you are a part of that, so thank you! Then we had Global Encounters. A week where we heard and participated in being launched on mission. I hope you had the opportunity to jump in and make a faith promise to be a part of what God is doing. I have this sense that we are continuing to move strategically towards our mission of being a multi-ethnic, multi-generational, church being transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and launched on mission. Prayer (Praying for a Team Leader) We desire to be a church that prays eagerly. For this year, we have planned 12 prayer initiatives as we pray for God’s transformative work in our friends’ and family’s lives. We have been praying for friends and families, for the Farmers Market, for our community, and the world. We desire to see a minimum of 12 people encounter Jesus and have their lives transformed. So far, we have seen five people say “yes” to Jesus. Let’s keep praying for more! On Sept 5th DAC was a satellite location for the District Prayer Gathering. It was great to be a part of that and pray for the greater work of the Alliance in MD, VA, DE, and DC. During our Sunday Gatherings, the prayer room is open to go and pray by yourself or with others. We are also seeking out a point person to raise the temperature of prayer in and beyond DAC. Would you consider being this person? If you are interested, please contact Pastor Mark. Pastor Mark - [email protected] Worship Team The Music and A/V team provide a quality and distraction free environment to worship Jesus Christ. It is exciting to be adding more people to the worship team. We are also looking at how to become more ethnically and culturally diverse in our worship. Both the A/V and worship teams are always open to adding more techs and musicians. If you have any interest in joining the worship team, contact Hector Ayerdiz. If you’d enjoy the A/V side of the Sunday Gatherings, contact Matthew Sutton. Local: The missions team had a conference call with Kelly Kidd on September 4. Kelly serves with Cru in Virginia, and DAC has been financially supporting her for some time. A team of 5 prepared and served a hot meal at the men's emergency shelter on September 9. The team and staff finalized an agreement with Milk Lady Markets for the 2019 season of the Derwood Farmers Market. The market will run from April 27 - October 26, 9 am to 1 pm. The missions team also spent considerable time planning, promoting, and facilitating the fall Global Encounters week, featuring global, regional, and local missions through our Sunday morning gatherings on September 23 and 30, as well as a Feast of Nations and Amazing Race on September 23, Missions Is for All Ages on September 26, Cultural Immersion on September 28, and the Farmers Market Finale and Volunteer Appreciation Party on September 30. Global: The team is pleased to announce that Tony Escalante, the director for our partner, Envision El Salvador, will be at DAC on October 24. Dates for the next mission trip to El Salvador are tentatively set for February 2019. On September 2, our Explorers children's ministry promoted two children from Lil Explorers to Explorers 1, three children from Explorers 1 to Explorers 2, and one student from Explorers 2 to Vision Youth Ministry. In addition to the regular curriculum, the elementary Explorers had a missions emphasis throughout September focusing on Indonesia, and several special events in correlation with our Global Encounters events. Many thanks to our team for going above and beyond to instill a missions heart in our kids! Bethany Clemmons - [email protected] Vision Youth Ministry Vision Youth is a vital part of training up the younger generation of disciples and leaders. Vision Youth had a great fall kick off with Yuck Ball on September 5. The following Wednesday, additions to the ministry’s logo were launched which help communicate the newly clarified vision: we desire to meet Jesus, get to know Jesus, and share Jesus with others. As leaders, we continue to pray that every Vision student will graduate high school fully in love with Jesus. If you are interested in getting your teen connected or volunteering, please talk to Tim Allen. Tim Allen – [email protected] Small Groups Small groups are a great place to make friends, pray, study the Bible, and live on mission. Fall small group registration closed on September 9, with 59 unique people in 5 groups. Our groups are off and running, and enjoying meals together, learning each other’s stories, and growing in "Gospel Fluency," the ability to speak the good news of Jesus into the everyday stuff of life. Jen Ashby – [email protected] Connections Team At DAC, we value authentic community and our Connections Team plays a big part in connecting us in community. Many thanks to the coffee team, who has agreed to arrange meals for events such as Meet the Staff and Intro DAC as part of their ministry. Wendy Geraci – [email protected] Building and Grounds God has given us a great location and property and we strive to be good stewards of these gifts. We desire to have a physical location that enhances our neighborhood and attracts people to Jesus. As part of this we will be resurfacing the parking lot on Oct 15-16th. Thank you for your generous donations towards this project and if you would like to still donate, you can do this online. If you are interested in helping care for our property, contact Mark Neely. Mark Neely - [email protected] Church Assessment Thank you to all who participated in the church assessment. The Two recommendations that were made were:
Intro to DAC On September 16th, we hosted an Intro to DAC, part of our membership process. The next one will be on December 16th. We have taken a break from formal leadership development but are looking at how we can continue to invest in both present and future leaders to make them effective for God’s purposes. Part of this is having people identify and apprentice others as part of a team instead of doing ministry alone. It is much better together. Staff The staff manages ministry and meets weekly. The staff continues to meet on a regular basis to pray, plan, and pursue after the mission of being a multi-ethnic, multi-generational church being transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and launched on mission. Elders The Elders shepherd and give spiritual oversight to DAC. DAC’s Elders meet monthly for a time of prayer and discussion on how to best provide care for the church. On October 6th the Elders met and discussed a philosophy of worship, a job description of Director of Prayer Ministries, and a three-year cycle for developing the church. We also took time to pray and talk. Please pray with us. Also, if you ever need prayer, please let the Elders know through your Sunday Prayer Card. They would love to pray for and with you. Current Elders: Mark Trinkl, Evan Homan, Eric Zetterberg, Steve Beardsley, Kyle Ott, Andrew Black, and Mark Neely Mark Trinkl – [email protected] Board of Governance (BOG) The Board of Governance (BOG) sets boundaries for the Pastor and meets quarterly. The BOG met on September 10th to discuss the recommendation from the church assessment. We also talked about the pastoral review and a name change for the church among other things. Current BOG: Mark Trinkl (Chairman), Evan Homan (Vice Chair), Jim Mullen (Treasurer), Eric Zetterberg (Secretary), Andrew Black, Steve Beardsley, Sarah Luse, Trudy Schwarz.
