NOTE FROM PASTOR MARK As lead pastor, Pastor Mark leads the church within the boundaries set by the BOG. This past week I had an opportunity to share Jesus with a Gentlemen I have known for over 15 years who I used to mentor when he was in high school. His life is a mess and as I talked with him, he realized his need for a Savior. I had the incredible opportunity of leading him to Christ and all he could say was. God is real, he is here in my room and I am experiencing something greater than cigarettes and alcohol. That is what we are praying for as a church that many people would say yes to Jesus for the first time and have their lives transformed. I hope you #sharjesus and #showjesus in your daily life. It is so worth it! As of the beginning of May we have shared Jesus 28 times and showed Jesus for 730 hours. Praise God! Keep praying! Keep showing! Keep sharing Jesus, and keep submitting the stories. PRAYER We want to pray eagerly as prayer is first about a relationship with God and second transforming our world. April 5th from 7pm-8:15pm held a church prayer gathering where a group came together to pray and seek the Lord. Sunday mornings, the prayer room next to the sanctuary is open for anyone who would like to pray during the service. We have also started sending email and text updates for those who want to receive prayer requests from our church body. Email Joella with your name and email address or phone number if you would like to be added to the list. The worship and A/V team do a great job with providing a distraction-free environment for this local body of believers to worship together. If you want to be a part of this integral upfront and behind-the-scenes service, contact Hector Ayerdiz or Matthew Sutton. The missions team met on April 2 and debriefed Spring 2019 Global Encounters. We set dates for Fall 2019 Global Encounters for August 3 - 11, including a night with C&MA missionaries to Paris, Dan & Lisa Lawrence. We set dates for Spring Global Encounters 2020 for March 1-8, including three days with C&MA missionaries to a creative access country. The team granted a one-time gift to Carl Nowack for his short term trip this summer with Power to Change to a creative access country. The Cambodia mission trip team continues to meet and fundraise. Please pray for their trip June 21-July 2. About 45 volunteers mobilized to put on the Spring Carnival on April 21. About 700 people came across the property in three hours that day, and over 430 of them were children! We have since seen at least one family from the carnival at DAC on Sunday morning. Go God! The 2019 season of the Derwood Farmers Market got rolling on April 27 with a full set of volunteers, and two of our own, Xzyavier and Jocelyn Ragland, actually working as vendors! It's amazing to hear our neighbors take pride and ownership in the market with comments like, "Happiness is opening day of our farmer's market!" Please pray for opportunities to #sharejesus and #showjesus at the market. And spread the word about the market! It will only continue to the extent that it is economically viable for the vendors. Jen Ashby – [email protected] EXPLORERS CHILDREN'S MINISTRY A place for children to explore God’s world and Word and to make friends. Three people from DAC joined Children's Ministry Director, Bethany Clemmons at the "World Changers" training with Melissa MacDonald on April 13. Explorers Children's Ministry is participating DAC's goal give 40 invitations for people to say "yes" to Jesus in 2019. The Explorers target for this is six invitations to say "yes" to Jesus in 2019. We gave our second invitation of the year on April 28. Join us in praying that at a young age, children will understand their need for Jesus, and say "yes" to Him. Bethany Clemmons - [email protected] VISION YOUTH MINISTYR A place to meet Jesus, continue to know Jesus & be encouraged to share Jesus. During the month of April, students and leaders learned more about the Holy Spirit with the help of RightNow Media’s, “Forgotten God,” series by Francis Chan. At the end of the month, a group also headed to the annual District Youth Retreat. Melissa MacDonald, the Children’s Disciplemaking Specialist for the The Christian and Missionary Alliance, was the speaker for the weekend. She taught the hundreds of students and leaders who attended about experiencing God through love, grace, trust, forgiveness and faith. It was a great weekend and the students had a fun time recapping their weekend the following Wednesday! Our students at Vision Youth have an eagerness to know Jesus, and Vision leaders have the great responsibility to display Jesus to them. Come and be an encouragement to our students once a week as they face the daily pressures from school, social media, etc. Contact Tim Allen. Tim Allen – [email protected] SMALL GROUPS Our primary venue for making friends, inviting God's transformation through Scripture and prayer, and living on mission together. Four of our five subject-based winter/spring small groups wrapped up in April, and the fifth concluded on May 5. As groups conclude, attenders are sent a survey about their experience. We're delighted to see how God is using groups to help people make friends, experience transformation, and live on mission! Go God, and thank you small group leaders! The "Guys Doing Stuff" activity group had a total of two gatherings, and has come to a close. We'd love to try some variation of a group like this in the future, and are praying for men with the vision and bandwidth to take it on. The "Women's Crafting" activity group continues to meet twice a month, with new ladies almost every time, and at least two who have made the transition to attending DAC on Sunday mornings. Again, go God, and thank you, Aubry Simmons! We will offer a small-mid sized group on Wednesday evenings in the DAC Cafe in June-July, and then a full menu of groups again in the fall. Jen Ashby – [email protected] CONNECTIONS TEAM We desire authentic community and want to create space for transparency and real relationships. Whether you’re a regular attender or first-time guest, you always want to feel warmly welcomed. And knowing you are welcomed is the first step towards cultivating authentic community. If you enjoy inviting friends to your own home and meeting new people, consider joining this great team by contacting Wendy Geraci. Wendy Geraci – [email protected] BUILDINGS & GROUNDS God has given us a great location and property. We strive to be good stewards of these gifts. We had a great work day on April 13th where many projects around the church and at the DAC Villa were tackled. It was great to see Zion Ministries, another church that uses the building, helping alongside people form DAC. Thank you for everyone who came out on that day and thank you to all who take on small projects along the way! It is greatly appreciated. If you would like to help with B&G, please let Mark Neely know. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT We continue to pursue apprenticing people in all areas of ministry. We desire to be a multiplying church, and to do this we must form a multiplying mindset of training and releasing more people into ministry. If you are not currently serving, we would love to help you discover your giftedness and where God would like to place you. Check out this page on our website. STAFF The staff manages ministry teams and meets weekly. The staff continues to meet on a regular basis for prayer and planning. Currently, we are also going through a series on RightNow Media from The Center for Faith, Sexuality & Gender by Preston Sprinkle called, “Grace//Truth.” ELDERS The Elders shepherd and give spiritual oversight to DAC and meet on a monthly basis. There is a great group of Elders who are serving and praying for you faithfully. Currently good conversations are being had around the areas of membership and pastoral care. If you ever would like prayer for any reason, we would love to pray for you. Mark Trinkl – [email protected] BOARD OF GOVERNANCE (BOG) The Board of Governance (BOG) sets boundaries for the Pastor and meets minimum quarterly. The Board met on March 11 for our quarterly meeting to talk through culture and community and how to live launched on mission to the people that are right around us. We are also continuing conversation around a name change and praying for God’s leading. We meet again in May 13 to continue the conversations.
