Note from Mark We are already 1/12 through 2023. Oh how quick the days, weeks, and months go by. I am reminded of the verse from Psalm 90:12, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” It is easy to let life go by with little to no thought about where you are headed. We can live on autopilot, going through the motions and missing what God has for us. Oftentimes, we look for God in the big things, but it is the mundane, the grind of daily living, where God most often brings his presence. We simply need to seek and find him. So, whether or not you have stuck to your new year resolutions and are feeling good about yourself or maybe like a failure, why not make a choice today to make the most of it. Inviting God in and seeking his presence daily. MINISTRIESNeighborhood Kids Leader: Karin Sauder, [email protected] A safe place for children to meet Jesus, know Jesus & learn to share Jesus. Neighborhood Kids was so happy to launch our 4th class to kick off this new year. We now have Tiny Kids (birth to 2 years); a PreK group of 3 and 4 year olds (these are our new Little Kids); Big Kids 1 (K to 2nd grade); and Big Kids 2 (3rd to 5th grade). We have fantastic teams of volunteers covering these classes and we are so excited to see Neighborhood Kids growing. The theme for this month was Knowledge, and how knowing God and knowing the truth can help you make good choices. Our memory verse was Prov. 2:6, and as always, the kids did a great job learning it! Neighborhood Youth Leader: Tim Allen, [email protected] A place for teens to meet Jesus, know Jesus & be encouraged to share Jesus. Neighborhood Youth were excited to get back together after the holiday break. We started our 2023 kickoff with an amazing extended Christmas party. This month the youth have started a series called “Questions”. They submitted questions they would like to ask God, and we have spent several weeks going through some of the questions. It has developed some great conversations. Each week the students are able to add to the questions they submitted before. We look forward to continuing this series for several weeks as we dive deeper in our walk with God. Worship & Production Team Leader: Mel Neely, [email protected] We are a diverse community of followers of Jesus Christ, empowered by His Spirit with one heart and one mind to invite and lead in declaring His worth. The Neighborhood Church Worship & Production team continues to lift high the name of Jesus through our in person and online services. This month Mel Neely, Tim Allen, Adaora and Joseph Villacis led worship along with our dedicated team of instrumentalists and vocalists. On Thursday evenings the team engaged with devotionals reinforcing our 40 Days of Prayer series shared by Eric Peacock and Mel. We also shared praises and prayer requests. We purchased a new tambourine for our drum set and a new hydraulic drum throne which will be well used by Eric, Ben, Joseph and Richard. We are blessed with awesome drummers! Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals. Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD! Praise the LORD! Psalm 150: 4-6 Our Worship & Production team continues to thrive under the leadership of Jeff Geraci. We are thankful to have a truly multigenerational team with middle school, high school and adult volunteers working together to make our Sunday services in person and online possible. Joel Sauder transferred back to the area and will begin to serve on a regular basis again. Thank you, Joel! BECAUSE of God’s faithfulness, our Worship Team is living on mission as a multi-ethnic, multigenerational team being transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and inviting the Neighborhood Church family to be launched on mission with them! Neighborhood Groups Leader: Mark Trinkl, [email protected] Our primary venue for making friends, inviting God's transformation through Scripture and prayer, and living on mission together. For our winter semester, we have a total of five groups meeting with over 50 adults, plus children. It's exciting to see all the different relationships being formed, lives being shared, prayers prayed, along with the variety of content being studied. It’s not too late to join a few of the groups. Check out our Neighborhood Groups page. Missions Team Leader: Mark Trinkl, [email protected] We are launched on His mission from our neighborhoods to the nations. (Acts 1:8) We continued with our monthly packing of breakfasts for Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless on January 15th. We have also committed to a sixth season of the Derwood Farmers Market. We are praying for God to provide a market coordinator or a team, along with all the volunteers to make this a powerful way to show and share Jesus. Our spring Global Encounters week is coming up on March 25-28. Mark your calendars for a Feast of Nations on March 26th, 5-7pm. We will have Tony Roos, our missional partner, with us from Envision France sharing in many different ways. The missions team oversees our local and global missions engagement, which is everything from our partnerships with organizations such as MCCH, our ongoing support of missionaries in South America, Africa, and Europe, to our twice a year "Global Encounters" missions emphasis weeks. For more information about how you can get involved, see Mark Trinkl. Welcome Team Leader: Contact Rose Ojwiga, [email protected] We will be a community that is authentic, transparent & creates space for real relationships (Acts 2:42) All is going well for the Welcome Team. I thank God for all of the volunteers on this team that provides a warm welcome. The church is getting full all the time. LEADERSHIPStaff Mark Trinkl, Tim Allen, Linnea Allen, Melanie Neely, Karin Sauder & Dana Zetterberg Leader: Mark Trinkl, [email protected] The staff manages Neighborhood Church ministry teams. The staff has set goals for 2023 in conjunction with the Board.
We have taken time to try and make our values more memorable.
Linnea will be on maternity leave beginning February for three months. We will have Erica Johns (who interned one summer with Neighborhood Church in 2021) working with us virtually to manage much of Linnea’s job while she is away. Please continue to pray for the staff as we are trusting God and working hard to see his kingdom and purposes come.
