Note from Mark As we approach the holiday season, there is a tendency to be swept into the consumerism and busyness that surrounds us. What if instead, we took some time to reflect and be thankful for what we already have been given? There is so much to be grateful for. Then, what if we took it a step further and looked beyond ourselves to give our time, talent, and treasure to a greater cause? Jesus is our example, as the one who stepped out of eternity and into humanity as a gift to all humanity. He gave himself to reconcile us to God and we in turn are meant to give ourselves away in service to him. My hope for this season is that we would have a spirit of thankfulness and generosity believing we can be a part of seeing God transform lives. MINISTRIESNeighborhood Kids Leader: Karin Sauder, [email protected] A safe place for children to know Jesus, grow in Jesus & learn to go share Jesus. Neighborhood Kids had a fun and busy October! The theme for this month was “Grit”- refusing to give up when life gets hard. We talked about how to hold on and not give up when things happen that we don’t understand, because God loves us and he is with us even when we don’t know what to do or what will happen next. God knows the whole story of our lives and how everything works out in the end. The kids did a great job with their memory verse, which was Galatians 6:9. We also had a great time at our Trunk or Treat and petting zoo, welcoming 500 people from the community onto our property for some fall fun! Thanks to all who made the day a resounding success! Our friends Abby, Savannah, and Josiah lit up their light boxes this month in front of the whole church, proclaiming publicly that they said Yes to Jesus! And thanks to Miss Bonnie who hosted a kid’s presentation at our Feast of Nations this month. Neighborhood Kids is looking forward to an exciting holiday season! Neighborhood Youth Leader: Tim Allen, [email protected] A place for teens to meet Jesus, know Jesus & be encouraged to share Jesus. To kick off the fall semester as we welcomed the new 6th graders, Neighborhood Youth took some time to discuss what this ministry is all about. The students & leaders talked about what it means to meet Jesus, know Jesus & share Jesus. We also discussed what it means to love and respect one another as we strive to create a loving and safe environment for everyone. We also continued to enjoy a family-style dinner every week! A huge thank you to Cathy Boss & Bonnie Wissink for sharing their time, care & delicious food! Worship & Production Team Leader: Mel Neely, [email protected] We are a diverse community of followers of Jesus Christ, empowered by His Spirit with one heart and one mind to invite and lead in declaring His worth. The Neighborhood Church Worship & Production team continues to lift high the name of Jesus through our in person and online services. This month Mel Neely, Adoara Nwokoye, Tim Allen and Joseph Villacis led worship along with our dedicated team of instrumentalists and vocalists. On Thursday evenings, the team engaged with the Living Free Neighborhood Group material and shared praises and prayer requests. Mel, Tim Allen and Evan Homan enjoyed leading worship at the Neighborhood Church Leadership Retreat held at Summit Grove on October 28 to October 30. We will continue to sing of the “Goodness of God”! Our Worship & Production team continues to thrive under the leadership of Jeff Geraci. We are thankful to have a truly multigenerational team with middle school, high school and adult volunteers working together to make our Sunday services in person and online possible. BECAUSE of God’s faithfulness, our Worship Team is living on mission as a multi-ethnic, multigenerational team being transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and inviting the Neighborhood Church family to be launched on mission with them! Neighborhood Groups Leader: Jen Ashby, [email protected] Our primary venue for making friends, inviting God's transformation through Scripture and prayer, and living on mission together. Our five Neighborhood Groups followed the "Living Free" series on Sunday mornings, and many of them are now meeting another time or two for fun. A huge thanks to those who led, hosted, and engaged in groups! A reminder about next steps coming out of this series: You can A) Talk to Mark Trinkl or Jen Ashby; B) Read Soul Care by Rob Reimer; C) If you are interested in Rob's Deliverance Training Workshop Livestream on January 20-21, talk to Jen; D) Mark your calendar for a Soul Care conference at Neighborhood Church March 2-4. If you attended a Neighborhood Group this fall, you received a survey about your experience. If you are interested in learning what's involved in leading or hosting a group, contact Jen in November. Our next menu will be assembled in December, and winter/ spring groups launch in January. Missions Team Leader: Jen Ashby, [email protected] We are launched on His mission from our neighborhoods to the nations. (Acts 1:8) We continued with our monthly packing of breakfasts for Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless on October 16. Our fall Global Encounters missions emphasis unfolded October 14-15, 22. Many thanks to Katie and Tim Winter, who hosted Quinn McGarvey, our Christian & Missionary Alliance international worker to Japan. The weekend was packed with dinner with Quinn and the missions team, Donuts with Quinn on Saturday morning, and Trunk or Treat for our community. On Sunday morning, we heard from Quinn in both worship services about limited Gospel Access in Japan, and how she and we are part of changing that. Quinn met with two Neighborhood Groups, and we sent her off encouraged and a bit tired! The following Saturday, we gathered for a Feast of Nations and watched a video update from Tony Escalante, our C&MA missions partner in El Salvador, and received a live update from Bruce Persons, our C&MA partner planting a church serving the Deaf World in this region. For more information about our local, regional, and global missions involvement, see: https://www.neighborhoodc.org/ Welcome Team Leader: Contact Rose Ojwiga, [email protected] We will be a community that is authentic, transparent & creates space for real relationships (Acts 2:42) We are thankful for first time guests, new church members and a Welcome Team that loves God!
