Note from Pastor Mark As lead pastor, Pastor Mark leads the church within the boundaries set by the BOG. We are full on into the holiday season. With Thanksgiving a few weeks ago and Christmas coming, there are and will potentially be many opportunities for you to connect with people at work parties, seasonal events, or family gatherings. For some, the season brings joy-filled reminders and for others, it feels like exposing a painful wound of years gone by. In the midst of it all, I hope you are reminded if the incredible gift of Jesus. God gave sacrificially so that we could have a restored relationship with him and life both here and forever. My hope and prayer for each of us is that we discover opportunities to share the greatest gift with others around us through both word and deed. Prayer We desire to be a church that prays eagerly. For this year, we have planned 12 prayer initiatives as we pray for God’s transformative work in our friends’ and family’s lives. We have been praying for friends and families, for our community, and the world. We desire to see a minimum of 12 people encounter Jesus and have their lives transformed. So far, we have seen seven people say “yes” to Jesus and 13 baptisms. Let’s keep praying for more! During our Sunday Gatherings, the prayer room is open to go and pray by yourself or with others. Eric and Joella Liddle have agreed to develop the prayer ministry at DAC. This transition will begin in January and will focus on three areas: communicating prayer requests via email and text, praying during our Sunday Gatherings, and regular opportunities to pray together. If you would like to be a part of this ministry, please contact Pastor Mark. Pastor Mark - [email protected] Worship Team The Music and A/V team provide a quality and distraction free environment to worship Jesus Christ. It is exciting to be adding more people to the worship team. We are also looking at how to become more ethnically and culturally diverse in our worship. Both the A/V and worship teams are always open to adding more techs and musicians. If you have any interest in joining the worship team, contact Hector Ayerdiz. If you’d enjoy the A/V side of the Sunday Gatherings, contact Matthew Sutton. Hector Ayerdiz – [email protected] Matthew Sutton – [email protected] Missions Team The Missions Team helps launch us on mission. The missions team met on November 5 and finalized decisions about missionary financial support for 2019, and communicated those decisions to all applicants and DAC. As an offshoot of the Derwood Farmers Market, DAC hosted Common Root Farm for a pre-order pick up and "pop up" market on November 20 from 3:30-6:30 pm. This past month, DAC was also able to help a mom with four children referred to us by Candlewood Elementary School. Thanks to your generous giving to the benevolence fund, Pastor Mark and Jen were able to provide this family with gift cards for groceries and winter clothes. Laura Hessler - [email protected] Emily Harr - [email protected] Explorers Children’s Ministry Children are at the prime age for connecting with Jesus, and we love engaging them with prime ministry! Pastor Mark and Nami Trinkl dedicated Annali, and Andrew and Miriam Black dedicated Sarah on November 11. Two of our elementary Explorers, Samuel and Kait Clemmons, were baptized on November 25 with the rest of our elementary Explorers cheering them on. Bethany Clemmons - [email protected] Vision Youth Ministry Vision Youth is a vital part of training up the younger generation of disciples and leaders. November kick-started our discussion on “knowing Jesus.” Throughout the month, the students and leaders reflected on things Jesus has done for each of us personally. From giving us eternal life to providing us the friends we need, it has been wonderful to reflect on the personal God we worship. If you are interested in getting your teen connected or volunteering, please talk to Tim Allen. Tim Allen – [email protected] Small Groups Small groups are a great place to make friends, pray, study the Bible, and live on mission. As our small groups continued the focus on "Gospel Fluency" in November, each group also had an opportunity to give input about the shape of small group ministry for 2019. Pam Homan and Andrew Black hosted a focus group on November 18 for adults not currently in small groups to provide them an opportunity to provide input in a conversational format as well. Additionally, an online survey was available from November 26 - December 1 for input. Stay tuned for the first 2019 small group menu, scheduled to be released on December 28. Jen Ashby – [email protected] Connections Team At DAC, we value authentic community and our Connections Team plays a big part in connecting us in community. If you enjoy showing hospitality and making others feel at home, consider joining the Connections Team! The roles within this team consists of greeters, ushers, coffee team & the follow up team that personally deliver a welcome gift to DAC’s guests. Wendy Geraci – [email protected] Building and Grounds God has given us a great location and property and we strive to be good stewards of these gifts. God has blessed us with a great property and a great team the helps maintain it. If you like to roll up your sleeves and working with your hands, join the B&G team or check out some of the pending projects listed on our website and the slat wall outside the kitchen. Mark Neely - [email protected] Baptisms Along with our two Explorers, DAC celebrated with four others who decided to be baptized! Anna Mullen, TJ Mullen, Karina Homan & Tim Westby, it was a joy to witness your baptisms and seeing you continually say “yes” to Jesus! We have taken a break from formal leadership development but are looking at how we can continue to invest in both present and future leaders to make them effective for God’s purposes. Part of this is having people identify and apprentice others as part of a team instead of doing ministry alone. It is much better together. Staff The staff manages ministry and meets weekly. The staff continues to meet on a regular basis to pray, plan, and pursue after the mission of being a multi-ethnic, multi-generational church being transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and launched on mission. We just finished reading a book, Driven by Difference, and are in the process of setting goals for next year. Our hope is to see many people say yes to Jesus for the first time. Elders The Elders shepherd and give spiritual oversight to DAC. DAC’s Elders meet monthly for a time of prayer and how to best provide care for the church. If you ever need prayer, please let the Elders know through your Sunday Prayer Card. They would love to pray for you. Our current Elders are Mark Trinkl, Evan Homan, Eric Zetterberg, Steve Beardsley, Kyle Ott, Andrew Black, and Mark Neely. Mark Trinkl – [email protected] Board of Governance (BOG) The Board of Governance (BOG) sets boundaries for the Pastor and meets quarterly. The next board meeting is December 10th. Some of the things to be discussed are voting on the 2019 budget, a name change, connecting with Christ, different projects, and yearly performance review of the Lead Pastor. Please be praying for God’s wisdom with the many things to be discussed and considered. Our current BOG are Mark Trinkl (Chairman), Evan Homan (Vice Chair), Jim Mullen (Treasurer), Eric Zetterberg (Secretary), Andrew Black, Steve Beardsley, Sarah Luse, and Trudy Schwarz.
