NOTE FROM PASTOR MARK As lead pastor, Pastor Mark leads the church within the boundaries set by the BOG. Merry Christmas! With the chill in the air and Christmas around the corner, it is a great time to remember and share the true spirit of Christmas found in Jesus. May our hearts be united and drawn back to the awe and wonder of Emmanuel, God with us. (Make sure to take a look under staff to see some changes that are happening.) NAME CHANGE We are in the final process of changing the church name to Neighborhood Church. This is slowly moving forward both legally and practically. Stay tuned for more details. PRAYER We want to pray eagerly as prayer is first about a relationship with God and second transforming our world. DAC will be taking a break from prayer gatherings until after the holidays, but stay tuned for upcoming prayer events in the new year! Every Sunday, the prayer room next to the sanctuary is open during both services for anyone who would like to pray specifically over the services as they happen. Praises and prayer requests are sent out weekly from the Connect cards collected at each service, and if you would like a request to be sent out during the week, you can submit a prayer or praise on the church website from the prayer page under the connect tab. Joella Liddle – [email protected] Eric Liddle - [email protected] WORSHIP We want to worship in all we do as we are designed to worship God as a way of life. The worship and A/V team do a great job with providing an environment for people to fully engage with God and one another. Beginning in 2020, we will have one acoustic Sunday a month to provide a different worship experience. The worship team is more and more reflecting our heart to be a multi-ethnic and multi-generational church! If you would like to be a part of helping others to fully engage in worship of Jesus, contact Hector Ayerdiz or Matthew Sutton. Hector Ayerdiz, Worship Director – [email protected] Matthew Sutton, A/V Team Leader – [email protected] MISSIONS The Missions Team helps launch us on mission. To conclude our second market season, we hosted a very successful Derwood Farmers Market Celebration on November 2, with over 100 people in attendance: about half from DAC and half from our community. It was tremendous to see the room full of people sharing meals and stories around tables. We announced our third market season, which will run from April 18 - September 5, 2020. This shorter season is designed to fit better within our church ministry calendar. Several households have contributed to the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless Holiday Giving Program. Tony Escalante, Director for EnVision El Salvador spoke at DAC on November 6, with opportunity for follow up on November 7. We are exploring the possibility of sending a team to El Salvador in August 2020. For more information about the trip, as well as how you sponsor a Salvadoran student, see the website under "missions/ global." Our Paris Mission Trip Team is hard at work raising prayer and financial support for their April 2020 trip. For more information, see the website under "missions/ global." The Missions Team met with Tony Escalante on November 7, and then again on November 18. If you are interested in learning more about this team, and especially if you would like to serve as a point person to one of the missionaries we support, we'd love to talk with you more! Jen Ashby – [email protected] EXPLORERS CHILDREN'S MINISTRY A place for children to explore God’s world and Word and to make friends. Stacey Fosbrink welcomed a new baby girl at the end of October, and several households stepped up to provide meals to the growing family. Congratulations, Stacey and family! More than a dozen women gathered on November 10 to shower Debbie Raplee with support in anticipation of baby boy Raplee who was born on December 3. Congratulations, Debbie and family! DAC continues to host church-wide showers for a family's first baby after coming to DAC, and to schedule meals for any DAC family with a new baby. Bethany Clemmons - [email protected] VISION YOUTH MINISTRY A place to meet Jesus, continue to know Jesus & be encouraged to share Jesus. For the month of November and into December, Vision Youth has been studying the book of Mark through RightNow Media’s, “The Gospel of Mark” with teaching from Francis Chan. Also, we’re excited to announce that starting January 5, Vision Youth (soon to be Neighborhood Youth) will begin to meet on Sundays from 7pm-9pm in the worship center. The group has been growing and we’re needing to utilize a bigger space! Tim Allen – [email protected] SMALL GROUPS Our primary venue for making friends, inviting God's transformation through Scripture and prayer, and living on mission together. Two of our small groups continued to meet into November, and one more group is meeting into December! Plans are underway for the winter semester. Stay tuned for details. Jen Ashby – [email protected] CONNECTIONS We desire authentic community and want to create space for transparency and real relationships. Whether you’re a regular attender or new to the church, we want you to feel connected! And knowing you are welcomed is the first step towards cultivating authentic community. If you enjoy inviting friends to your own home and meeting new people, consider joining this great team by contacting Wendy Geraci. Wendy Geraci – [email protected] BUILDINGS & GROUNDS God has given us a great location and property. We strive to be good stewards of these gifts. Thank you to all who invest their time maintaining and improving the property. If you have interest in handy work and would like to be a part of this vital team, contact Mark Neely. Mark Neely - [email protected] LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT We continue to pursue apprenticing people in all areas of ministry. We desire to be a multiplying church, and to do this we must have a multiplying mindset of training and releasing more people into ministry. If you are not currently serving, we would love to help you discover your giftedness and where God would like to place you. Check out this page on our website. STAFF The staff manages ministry teams and meets weekly. The staff continues to meet on a regular basis for prayer and planning. Linnea will be on maternity leave beginning December 25th. We are excited for the Allen’s welcoming a new baby very soon and appreciate all Linnea has done and continues to do for DAC. For this leave and beyond, we have hired a part-time Virtual Assistant, Eileen Knowles, through Belay Solutions and recruited volunteers to help in the office. Please show us grace during these periods of change. Please pray alongside us that God will work in supernatural ways through DAC. ELDERS The Elders shepherd and give spiritual oversight to DAC and meet on a monthly basis. There is a great group of Elders who are serving and praying for you faithfully. If you ever would like prayer for any reason, we would love to pray for you. Our next meeting Is January 13th. Mark Trinkl – [email protected] BOARD OF GOVERNANCE (BOG) The Board of Governance (BOG) sets boundaries for the Pastor and meets minimum quarterly. The Board met on December 9th to connect with Christ, review biblical mission and values, perform the pastoral review, review next year’s budget, review constitution and bylaw changes, and more. Please pray for all in leadership and the church for the unity of spirit and the bond of peace as we continue to discern God’s heart for DAC and beyond. The next meeting is January 6th to prepare for the annual meeting. Chairman Mark Trinkl – [email protected] Vice-Chairman Evan Homan – [email protected] MCCH Bagged Breakfast – December 15
