Note from Mark Can you sense the excitement in the air? The days are growing longer and the last gasp of winter is turning into the warmth of spring. I love spring; the smells, colors, and new life birthing all around. God is the creator of seasons and cycles both in nature and in our lives. As you take a look at your own life and relationships, what season are you in: spring, summer, fall, winter? The pandemic has been a challenge and a change for all of us. In some ways, it’s felt like a whole season of its own. As I think and pray about Neighborhood Church, I believe we have weathered this season and are moving in to a season of spring in the church. There are signs of new life in people and ministries. There is a sense of anticipation with the return of the Spring Carnival, Easter Sunday, and the 5th season of the Derwood Farmers Market. We are wrapping up a great semester of Neighborhood Groups. We sent a team on mission to France and hosted the first Feast of Nations in a few years. Neighborhood Kids has new kids and volunteers connecting. Neighborhood Youth has adjusted, is leaning into relationship and the return of events like District Youth Retreat and Life Conference. The Worship & Production Team is adding new people and becoming more diverse…and the list can go on. I see God at work in this season of spring. I am trusting and praying for God to use us to fulfill his purpose of seeing people transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and launched on mission, and I am excited to be in spring. MINISTRIESPrayer Leader: Contact Mark Trinkl, [email protected] We will pray in relationship with God & to see our world transformed. (Matthew 6:9-13) As Mark will be on Sabbatical for May and June, we will be looking at developing this team more upon his return. We are praying for the building & growing of a prayer team that would both pray on Sundays during the services and at other times throughout the weeks and months. If interested, please contact Mark Trinkl. Neighborhood Kids Leader: Karin Sauder, [email protected] A safe place for children to know Jesus, grow in Jesus & learn to go share Jesus. We restarted the “Birthday Ministry”, sending birthday cards to the Neighborhood Kids. This is headed up by Kari Wong for the Tiny Kids and Deborah Bennett for the Little and Big Kids. Happy 6th birthday to Gigi and Maggie Drumm and Aurelius Ramos! We also had a wonderful children’s program this past month all about France for Feast of Nations led by Bonnie Wissink, Steve Beardsley & Trudy Schwartz. Neighborhood Youth Leader: Tim Allen, [email protected] A place for teens to meet Jesus, know Jesus & be encouraged to share Jesus. During the month of March, Kyle Ott led Neighborhood Youth through a study on “Knowing Jesus” throughout the Gospels. There were great conversations both over the dinner table & during the Bible study! The students attending LIFE2022 held a Chili & Soup Cook Off Fundraiser! Thank you to everyone who entered the contest & came to eat and vote! It was a great night and congratulations to Richard & Donna Brown, winners of the cook off! Neighborhood Groups Leader: Jen Ashby, [email protected] Our primary venue for making friends, inviting God's transformation through Scripture and prayer, and living on mission together. Two of our winter/spring groups concluded, and others will likely conclude around Easter. Engage over the spring/summer at the Derwood Farmers Market, and keep an eye out for events such as Meet the Staff and monthly social gatherings. Fall Neighborhood Groups will begin in September. Thank you to all who led, hosted, and participated in groups this semester! Missions Team Leader: Jen Ashby, [email protected] We are launched on His mission from our neighborhoods to the nations. (Acts 1:8)
Connections Team Leader: Contact Jen Ashby, [email protected] We will be a community that is authentic, transparent & creates space for real relationships (Acts 2:42) This team continues to adjust to our newest realities, and we are prayerfully seeing a leader for this ministry. Building & Grounds Leader: Mark Neely, [email protected] God has given us a great property to faithfully steward and are grateful for all the people who volunteer to make this happen. Over the last few months, a remodel project was planned and is now underway for the Worship Production Room, stairwell, and storage areas at the rear of the sanctuary. Thanks to Landon Neely for doing this as his Eagle Scout project along with Mark Neely, Andrew Spencer, Jeff Geraci, the Worship & Production Team, Boy Scouts, and others for making this happen! LEADERSHIPStaff Mark Trinkl, Jen Ashby, Tim Allen, Linnea Allen, Melanie Neely, Karin Sauder & Dana Zetterberg Leader: Mark Trinkl, [email protected] The staff manages Neighborhood Church ministry teams. The staff continues to meet weekly for prayer and planning. From March 20-23 the staff went on a retreat. This was a great time to connect with one another and talk about both current and future ministry. Please be praying for the staff and any added responsibilities with Mark being on Sabbatical for May and June. Elders Mark Trinkl, Evan Homan, Steve Beardsley, Mark Neely, Jim Mullen & Keith Luse Leader: Mark Trinkl, [email protected] The Elders shepherd and give spiritual oversight to Neighborhood Church. The elders continue to meet monthly to pray and shepherd the congregation. We also believe the primary way we care for one another is in our Neighborhood Groups. If you would like prayer and anointing for healing or other care, the Elders are available. Simply contact Mark Trinkl or Evan Homan. Board of Governance (BOG) Mark Trinkl, Evan Homan, Steve Beardsley, Sarah Luse, Matt Sale, Angela Drumm, Jim Mullen Chairman: Mark Trinkl, [email protected] Vice-Chairman: Evan Homan, [email protected] The Board of Governance (BOG) sets boundaries for the Pastor. The Board met on March 16 for their quarterly meeting which focused on connecting with people, culture and community. We talked about the demographics of the area, changing cultural climate and how to see people transformed, empowered and launched on mission. We are also in a very good financial position and are praying for God’s leading in how to invest our resources. No major decisions were made. The next meeting will be on July 11th after Mark’s Sabbatical. We are thankful for the Board and their faithful oversight of Neighborhood Church. UPCOMING DATESGood Friday: April 15, 7pm
