Note for Mark It has already been over a month since I’ve returned from my Sabbatical. Thank you for this great time of refreshment and also thank you to Jen Ashby for leading the staff while I was away. It’s great to see how God has been at work and continues to work through Neighborhood Church. During my sabbatical I had four main purposes: to take a deep time of Sabbath rest, read extensively on multiethnic/multicultural churches, have conversations with leaders from this type of church, and take some time with family. I can say wholeheartedly that all of the things were accomplished and I truly feel a deep sense of refreshment, a better understanding holistically of multiethnic and multicultural church, and made some great memories with family. Feel free to ask me if you’d like to know more. I’m excited as we continue the farmers market and sharing and showing Jesus to our neighborhood. Every time I am there, I have great conversations about life and Jesus. I’m also excited as we look towards fall and a new ministry season. With Neighborhood kids, youth, groups, and many other events planned, it is going to be an exciting fall. God is transforming lives and we get to be a part of it! I hope you are going to jump on in. MINISTRIESNeighborhood Kids Leader: Karin Sauder, [email protected] A safe place for children to know Jesus, grow in Jesus & learn to go share Jesus. This summer, Neighborhood Kids is “Making Waves” by studying the Fruits of the Spirit. We started a two months long project to study the first four Fruits and create a posterboard for them. We have also had fun with water related games outside to celebrate the warm weather! Neighborhood Kids is representing at the Farmers Market once a month this season, with a fun craft project for the kids. It was great to meet so many kids and parents from the community! Our rising sixth graders had the first of a few “get to know you” activities with Neighborhood Youth to get ready for their “graduation” in September! Alli and Alex Nordstrom welcomed our newest Neighborhood Kid, Lianne, on June 25th. She joins her big sisters Melody and Corinne. Congratulations to the whole family! Annali Trinkl said her first Yes to Jesus this month! We rejoice with Annali and her whole family for this wonderful event! Neighborhood Youth Leader: Tim Allen, [email protected] A place for teens to meet Jesus, know Jesus & be encouraged to share Jesus. In June, Neighborhood Youth wrapped up their study on the Shema prayer found in Deuteronomy 6:4-5 & entered the summer schedule! Check out www.neighborhoodc.org/neighborhood-youth for those details. We also had a special Youth Night for current youth students and upcoming 6th graders. A big thank you to our Children’s Ministry Director, Karin Sauder, for hosting! In July, a group of ten students and four leaders headed to Orlando, Florida for the LIFE Conference. This is a youth conference held by the Christian & Missionary Alliance every three years. While some challenges presented itself during the trip, God still worked in the lives of our students! Worship & Production Team Leader: Mel Neely, [email protected] We are a diverse community of followers of Jesus Christ, empowered by His Spirit with one heart and one mind to invite and lead in declaring His worth. The Neighborhood Church Worship & Production team continues to lift high the name of Jesus through our in person and online services. These past two months, Mel, Adoara and Joseph Villacis led worship along with our dedicated team of instrumentalists and vocalists. On Thursday evenings, the team shared sermon focused devotionals led by Mel, Eric Peacock, Holly Mullen, Donna Brown and Doris Wang. The team joyfully prayed for each other and over Neighborhood Church each Thursday evening and Sunday morning. On June 11 & July 23, the team (including Holly Mullen, Eric Peacock, Donna Brown, Richard Brown, Jeff Geraci and Mel) provided music at our Derwood Market! It was a blessing to bring our sanctuary sounds of praise outside to our community. Our Worship & Production team met for fellowship and lighting training under the leadership of Jeff Geraci. Landon Neely's Eagle Project is complete and the production team and Neighborhood Church as a whole are benefitting from the sound room renovation. We welcomed Joel Sauder to the team and are thankful for his heart to serve during his summer home from college! BECAUSE of God's faithfulness, our Worship Team is living on mission as a multi-ethnic, multigenerational team being transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and inviting the Neighborhood Church family to be launched on mission with them! Neighborhood Groups Leader: Jen Ashby, [email protected] Our primary venue for making friends, inviting God's transformation through Scripture and prayer, and living on mission together. Our groups are on a summer break, but registration for fall groups will open on August 19! We had great turn out and fun at our June church-wide social led by the Neelys, and our July church-wide social led by the Browns. RSVP now for the August social on August 21! These casual, outdoor events for all ages are a great place to make and deepen friendships. Missions Team Leader: Jen Ashby, [email protected] We are launched on His mission from our neighborhoods to the nations. (Acts 1:8)
Connections Team Leader: Contact Jen Ashby, [email protected] We will be a community that is authentic, transparent & creates space for real relationships (Acts 2:42) Almost every Sunday, we have first time guests at Neighborhood Church, in addition to newer and regular attenders. When they pull in, welcome flags are out, doors are unlocked, lights are on, someone is here to greet them and answer their questions, and after the service, hot coffee is waiting. This is the work of the Welcome Team, who is pleased to announce their new leader, Rose Ojwiga! Thank you, Rose!
