NOTE FROM MARK These are exciting times at Neighborhood Church. When I reflect on what was happening only a year ago, I see how much has changed. At this time last year, I was the one full-time person on staff. This year we now have three (Karin, Devin and I). As part of that, we have brought on a Green House Church Planter (Devin), moved Karin to full-time to assist with many other areas of ministry, brought in an ALME (Alliance License Ministry Experience) Candidate (Natalie) who is working with us part-time and continue to see the high level of investment by Tim, Linnea, Mel, and Dana. The excitement around the office can be felt and I can see the investment all these people are making in moving the church forward into God’s purposes. Will you pray with us for unity and for us to keep in step with God’s plans as we go. MINISTRIES NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS Leader: Karin Sauder, [email protected] A safe place for children to meet Jesus, know Jesus & learn to share Jesus. We are very excited for spring and warmer weather at Neighborhood Kids. As we return to our regular curriculum, we are looking forward to fun events that the church has planned for the spring and summer! We enjoyed seeing the kids from the community again at our first Kid’s Tent of the season at the market. Thanks to Miss Karina for volunteering for that! We will have a Kid’s Tent at the market once a month all summer long! We also want to congratulate Faith Brown on dedicating her three beautiful Neighborhood Kids this month: Ma’Kenzie, Armoni, and Arielle. We are so happy to have you all in the family! NEIGHBORHOOD YOUTH Leader: Tim Allen, [email protected] A place for teens to meet Jesus, know Jesus & be encouraged to share Jesus. Neighborhood Youth concluded its study in the book of James. This RightNow Media video study helped provide thought-provoking conversations every week. This past month, Neighborhood Youth also went to the District Youth Retreat (DYR). It was a great weekend at Rockbridge Alum Springs YoungLife Camp with the other youth groups in our district. Eric Peacock did an awesome job as the retreat’s speaker. God was really at work speaking through each session & small group times. Thank you again to everyone who prayed and gave and made this weekend possible! WORSHIP & PRODUCTION TEAM Leader: Mel Neely, [email protected] We are a diverse community of followers of Jesus Christ, empowered by His Spirit with one heart and one mind to invite and lead in declaring His worth. The Neighborhood Church Worship & Production team continues to lift high the name of Jesus through our in person and online services. This month, Mel Neely and Adaora led worship during our Sunday services along with our dedicated team of instrumentalists and vocalists. We introduced the new-to-Neighborhood-Church song, “Holy Forever ”: https://youtu.be/IkHgxKemCRk?si=5Ah80JL-6EvIryvM On Thursday evenings, the team engaged with devotionals encouraging each other to look full on the wonderful face of Jesus . These times were led by Mel, Adaora and Eric. We shared praises and prayer requests, praying for each other and over Neighborhood Church. Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals. Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD ! Praise the LORD ! Psalm 150: 4-6 We are thankful to have a truly multigenerational team with middle school, high school and adult volunteers working together to make our Sunday services in person and online possible. On April 29, Mel, Bryan and Jeff led the Sound Team in a behind the stage and production room clean-up! Everything is so much easier to access and no one is being attacked by music stands anymore. :) A big thank you to our Buildings and Groups leader, Mark Neely, for putting up the new shelving and hooks and helping us get organized. BECAUSE of God’s faithfulness, our Worship & Production Team is living on mission as a multi-ethnic, multigenerational team being transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and inviting the Neighborhood Church family to be launched on mission with them! NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS Leader: Pam Homan, Matt Sale & Mark Trinkl, [email protected] A place for making friends, inviting God's transformation through Scripture and prayer, and being launched on mission together. Our winter semester of Neighborhood groups has ended and each group will be serving together at the Derwood Farmers Market during the months of April, May and June. This summer a women's book club will read Pathways to the King, Living a Life of Spiritual Renewal and Power, by Rob Reimer. Neighborhood Triads were announced and will be forming during the first part of May with a launch date of May 18. Neighborhood Triads will live on mission together through a new layer of discipleship, helping those who participate go deeper in relationship with God and two other people. Consider registering for a Neighborhood Triad, spots are still available! Plans are underway for three summer socials. Date and location details will be announced in the coming weeks. GREEN HOUSE CHURCH PLANT RESIDENT Devin Calhoun, [email protected] Neighborhood Church Vision: Launch Multiple Gatherings in Multiple Locations (Acts 2:42-47) This past April was a great month in leadership development for me and developing the vision of church planting with Neighborhood Church. Mark Brumley, the Church Planting Director for the C&MA Mid-Atlantic District, led a GreenHouse Church Planting Training for us here at Neighborhood Church. We learned more about what it means to be a GreenHouse Church, the development pathway for future church planters like me, and the greater plans for church planting in the Mid-Atlantic District. If you missed this amazing learning experience and would like to know more about it feel free to contact me. In April, we also launched our 7th year of the Derwood Farmer’s Market. It has continued to be a great place for Neighborhood Church to interact with the community. This year we have also launched a Prayer Tent, a place for people of the community to get to know more about Jesus through conversations and times of prayer with members of our church. If you haven’t already, make sure you sign up to volunteer or just come out to enjoy the great food, live music, and fun every Saturday. MISSIONS TEAM Leader: Mark Trinkl, [email protected] To see the people of Neighborhood Church launched on mission to share and show Jesus from our neighbors to the nations. (Acts 1:8) In April, we welcomed Natalie on to staff as our ALME (Alliance License Ministry Experience) Candidate. She will be with us for the next two years investing in missions, youth and getting a taste of many other areas. We are also in the process of looking into a short term trip in the fall, hopefully to Bangkok, Thailand. There is so much good happening. If you would like to join the team, just let Pastor Mark know. BOARD OF GOVERNANCE Mark Trinkl (Chair),Steve Beardsley (Vice Chair), Matt Sale (Treasurer), Sarah Luse (Secretary), Angela Drumm, Eric Peacock & Ted Mueller. The Board of Governance (BOG) sets boundaries for the Pastor. The Board met on March 11th for their quarterly meeting. The focus of the meeting was connecting with people as we reviewed the history and demographics of the area. We are praying for God to lead us as we consider where he would have us plant another location of Neighborhood Church. The Board also approved funds for the replacement of flooring in the foyer, cafe, prayer room and youth room.
