APRIL 2022

5/8/2022

Note from Jen
Hi there! I'm Jen Ashby, the Executive Director of Ministries at Neighborhood Church. As I write this, it is 48 degrees outside, and last week we had sleet.. BUT God gave us beautiful, sunny days for our Spring Carnival and opening day of the Derwood Farmers Market! This season of the year, in which we tend to be particularly "launched on mission" is in full swing! We blessed Pastor Mark and his family to begin a sabbatical on April 24, and while we value them and will miss them, God is still here, and this a great time to engage at Neighborhood Church. We're excited to be serving our community, worshiping with familiar and new friends on Sunday mornings, and walking with each other through the joys and challenges of life. As you read below, please take a moment to lift up Neighborhood Church in prayer, and let's expect God to continue working in and through us in the weeks to come.

MINISTRIES

Neighborhood Kids
Leader: Karin Sauder, karin.sauder@neighborhoodc.org
A safe place for children to know Jesus, grow in Jesus & learn to go share Jesus.

April was a busy and eventful month in NKids. First and most importantly, Caleb Escobar said his first Yes to Jesus on Sunday April 4th during Neighborhood Kids! All the angels are rejoicing as one more person enters the family of God! Palm Sunday involved a victorious parade of palm waving kids and families as we remembered Jesus’s entrance into Jerusalem. Then, the Spring Carnival made its post pandemic comeback on April 16 and was a resounding success. Feedback was enthusiastic and positive. Thanks to all the volunteers who made it possible! Easter was a joyful time of celebration with our kids participating in a Praise Parade during the 10:30 service, followed by fun Easter activities in NKids!

Neighborhood Groups
Leader: Jen Ashby, jen.ashby@neighborhoodc.org
Our primary venue for making friends, inviting God's transformation through Scripture and prayer, and living on mission together.

The rest of our winter/ spring Neighborhood Groups concluded, and we are poised to connect with newer attenders at "Meet the Staff" on May 1. Mark your calendars for church-wide socials on June 26, July TBD, and August 21. Fall Neighborhood Groups launch in September.

Missions Team
Leader: Jen Ashby, jen.ashby@neighborhoodc.org
We are launched on His mission from our neighborhoods to the nations. (Acts 1:8)

  • We continued with monthly bagged breakfasts for Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless on April 17, and delivered a quarterly hot dinner on April 3. Neighborhood Church is once again a sponsor for MCCH's annual gala, and you can find more information about that here: https://mcch.net/gala-2022/
  • Our Spring Carnival on April 16 engaged 30+ volunteers (THANK YOU!) and resulted in 650+ people on campus! We are grateful to God for a safe, sunny day and lots of great connections with our community.
  • The 5th season of the Derwood Farmers Market kicked off on April 23, and will run every Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm through September 3. This is a major way that we work together to show Jesus with our actions and share Jesus with our words with our community. We have some new aspects to this year's market to further engage the community, including: our worship team providing live music several weeks, our kids ministry team providing kids activities several weeks, engaging volunteers from the community to join us in serving, a monthly collection drive for different local organizations (Shady Grove Pregnancy Center, Manna Food Center, Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless, Candlewood Elementary School). The dream is to be able to interview customers and vendors and gather recipes for a Derwood Farmers Market Cookbook, but we cannot proceed with that unless we have the volunteer engagement. Come be part of what God is doing! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0d4baaa929a5fd0-derwood1

Connections Team
Leader:  Contact Jen Ashby, jen.ashby@neighborhoodc.org
We will be a community that is authentic, transparent & creates space for real relationships (Acts 2:42)

Please continue to pray as we look for a leader for this ministry. If you are interested, contact Jen Ashby.

Building & Grounds
Leader: Mark Neely, MarkNeely@havtech.com
God has given us a great property to faithfully steward and are grateful for all the people who volunteer to make this happen.

Thank you again to Landon Neely, Mark Neely, Andrew Spencer, Jeff Geraci, the Worship & Production Team, Boy Scouts, and many more for all the work they put into remodeling the sound room! It was all completed this month along with a church work day & the building looks great!
