MONTH IN REVIEW

JUNE 2024

6/1/2024

NOTE FROM MARK
In my current stage of life, summer provides a different rhythm. From my children being off of school, swim team, to family trips, summer is a great time to refresh and make lasting memories. At Neighborhood Church, we recognize the same is true for many of you. When summer arrives, people head many different directions but also many stay around. The hope is with all the coming and going of people and family, we will remain connected to God and one another. Often we try to fight against the rhythms of life or even the seasons of the year, but when we receive each season with open hands as a gift from God, it creates a joy and gratefulness. My prayer for you is to open your hands and hearts to what God is wanting to do in and through you in this summer season. He is at work and may you see and embrace it.

MINISTRIES

NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS
Leader: Karin Sauder, [email protected]
A safe place for children to meet Jesus, know Jesus & learn to share Jesus.

Welcome to summer! In Little Kids we started a new curriculum called Jesus Fixed It!, which teaches all about the miracles of Jesus. Big Kids continues to study What’s in the Bible, and this month we looked at The Writings: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. We had a Kid’s Tent at the Farmer’s Market for two weeks this month, and had a great time meeting more parents and kids in the community. We hope you got to see our amazing Neighborhood Kids perform in the Neighborhood Church Talent Show. Many of the kids showcased their talents individually; but there was also a Kid’s praise group that performed a song both at the talent show and at our Together Sunday service this month! Thanks to Miss Melanie and Miss Donna for organizing that amazing performance! And finally, Neighborhood Kids enjoyed a fun book reading and cookie reception from a local author, Peter Edivan, who read his book “Dominic Fox Goes for a Walk” to us.  It’s been a terrific summer so far, so stay tuned!

NEIGHBORHOOD YOUTH
Leader: Tim Allen, [email protected]
A place for teens to meet Jesus, know Jesus & be encouraged to share Jesus.

In June, Neighborhood Youth wrapped up its series, “Ways We Hear from God, Part 2.” It was fun & encouraging to hear how students opened up about their relationship with God through their artwork. We also started a series from The Bible Project. So far we’ve discussed the videos, “The City” & “Chaos Dragon.” Both videos explored different themes that are written throughout scripture.

WORSHIP & PRODUCTION TEAM
Leader: Mel Neely, [email protected]
We are a diverse community of followers of Jesus Christ, empowered by His Spirit with one heart and one mind to invite and lead in declaring His worth.

The Neighborhood Church Worship & Production team continues to lift high the name of Jesus through our in person and online services. This month, Mel Neely and Adaora led worship during our Sunday services along with our dedicated team of instrumentalists and vocalists. We welcomed Grace Ng to the team as a new vocalist!

On Thursday evenings the team engaged with devotionals encouraging each other to look full on the wonderful face of Jesus. These times were led by Mel, Eric and Donna. We shared praises and prayer requests, praying for each other and over Neighborhood Church.

On our Together Sunday, June 30, some of our Neighborhood Kids led worship with a song they learned for the talent show! You can hear watch them praise at this link at 1:18:
https://www.facebook.com/share/v/5tL3v2D34tQqcnct/?mibextid=qi2Omg

Come join the team as we lift high the Name of Jesus at the Derwood Market again on July 13 and August 17. Adaora will provide music on July 20 too! We would love to see you there.

Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes!
Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals.
Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD ! Praise the LORD !
Psalm 150: 4-6

We are thankful to have a truly multigenerational team with middle school, high school and adult volunteers working together to make our Sunday services in person and online possible. We are excited about the addition of Natalie and Devin on team! They came out to practices and are continuing the process of learning the sound board and Proclaim.

BECAUSE of God’s faithfulness, our Worship & Production Team is living on mission as a multi-ethnic, multigenerational team being transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and inviting the Neighborhood Church family to be launched on mission with them!

NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS
Leader: Pam Homan, Matt Sale & Mark Trinkl, [email protected]
A place for making friends, inviting God's transformation through Scripture and prayer, and being launched on mission together.

The women's summer book club continues to meet and discuss "Pathways to the King, Living a Life of Spiritual Renewal and Power". We use the time together to also pray for one another and the needs of Neighborhood Church. Neighborhood Triads continue during the month of June. Thirteen triads continue to meet together (39 individuals participating) and connect via text, email or in person throughout the week. Triads are intended to foster intentional relationships with three people and Jesus as part of the Discipleship Pathway to have holistically healthy (head, heart, hands) disciples of Jesus who multiply disciples and churches. The first summer social was a talent show that took place in June 28. July's summer social will be a pool party at the Neely's on July 14. See website for more details and to RSVP.

GREEN HOUSE CHURCH PLANT
Devin Calhoun, [email protected]
Neighborhood Church Vision: Launch Multiple Gatherings in Multiple Locations (Acts 2:42-47)

This past month of June has been another awesome time serving and learning as part of the Neighborhood Church community.

In June we launched a new way for Young Adults to gather and fellowship. We had a great time of building community through games, food, and laughter. We met twice in the month of June and are looking forward to more opportunities to connect with each other for next month. If you are between the ages of 18-29 I hope to see you there!

At the Farmer’s Market we had so many different wonderful events and opportunities to connect with the community. At the beginning of the month we had the Annual Strawberry Festival which was a celebration of the start of Strawberry season in the area. Towards the end of the month we had a community shred event where people of the community could come and shred sensitive documents for free. Finally I want to mention that during the month of June we as a church held a donation drive for the Shady Grove Pregnancy Center, because of your generosity we were able to donate clothing, formula and other items new parents need.

In the world of Church planting and Church Planter development, I continued to meet with a cohort of church planters around the country where we talked about the struggles and the successes of church planting together. I also get the opportunity to meet monthly with the C&MA Mid-Atlantic District Church Planting Director for mentorship and training. This past month we have developed a survey for those in our community and surrounding areas so that we can better know the needs of the people we want to serve. We will be launching this survey soon, stay tuned for ways you can help us with this.

Lastly, on a personal note my parents were able to come visit for the first time. They had a wonderful time meeting many of you. I would like to thank you all for your incredible hospitality and welcoming atmosphere.

MISSIONS TEAM
Leader: Natalie, [email protected]
To see the people of Neighborhood Church launched on mission to share and show Jesus from our neighbors to the nations. (Acts 1:8)

Praise be to God! We officially have a short term trip coming up this fall to Bangkok, Thailand this fall! We are going to begin fundraising soon as we develop our team and we are excited to see what the Lord does! Please be in prayer over this trip, for both our Neighborhood team and the Envision team that we will be partnering with while we are there.

WELCOME TEAM
Leader:  Contact Rose Ojwiga, [email protected]
We will be a community that is authentic, transparent & creates space for real relationships (Acts 2:42)

Greetings in Jesus name. Just like other past months, the Welcome  Team remains awesome. We  welcomed everyone to church and kept our eyes on first-time visitors. One family came all the way from Germantown to worship with us because a member of Neighborhood Church invited them just from the store while shopping for groceries. Not only that, I have interacted with many visitors this month and gave them our appreciation.
