MONTH IN REVIEW

MAY 2025

5/1/2025

NOTE FROM MARK
As we enter into the summer season, there are different rhythms of life for many of us. If you have children in the home, the transition from school year to the summer can be a challenge, but also opens up opportunities for more time together as a family. If you are single, or do not have children around, the nice weather provides opportunities for outdoor activities like gardening, hiking, biking, etc. But not only activities, there are opportunities for connecting with people in different settings. For a long time, I tried to resist the changing seasons and different rhythms, but now I have shifted to trying to embrace them and see how God is at work in the seasons. So for this summer, I encourage you to connect with God and others in meaningful ways. There is a big, beautiful world we are a part of, so let’s embrace the seasons and see God at work in all of them.

MINISTRIES

NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS
Leader: Karin Sauder, [email protected]
A safe place for children to meet Jesus, know Jesus & learn to share Jesus.

Neighborhood Kids continued our journey through the Bible! We are up to the Israelites and Moses in Egypt on our timeline. Our Kid’s Tent at the Farmer’s Market has begun, and this year our kids are involved with the community outreach! Shout out to Annali Trinkl for volunteering at the tent this month. Thanks also to Karina Homan and Brittany Segundo for manning our tent at the Strawberry Festival. Our Neighborhood Kids volunteers were honored at a luncheon this month to thank them for another school year of love and service to our kids. We so appreciate them. We are ready for summer!

NEIGHBORHOOD YOUTH
Leader: Tim Allen, [email protected]
A place for teens to meet Jesus, know Jesus & be encouraged to share Jesus.

This past month, Neighborhood Youth continued their study from the Gospel Project. This curriculum has sparked some really great conversations among the students & leaders. May also held another LIFE fundraiser. Thank you to everyone that donated clothes and household items!

Also, as we are in transition in Neighborhood Youth, a survey was put together to gather input from both students & parents. Thank you to everyone that shared their thoughts. This will help as we look to the fall after Tim’s transition from youth ministry to chaplaincy.

WORSHIP & PRODUCTION TEAM
Leader: Mel Neely, [email protected]
We are a diverse community of followers of Jesus Christ, empowered by His Spirit with one heart and one mind to invite and lead in declaring His worth.

The Neighborhood Church Worship & Production team continues to lift high the name of Jesus
through our in person and online services. This month Mel Neely, Tim Allen and Adaora led worship during our Sunday services along with our dedicated team of instrumentalists and vocalists. We introduced a new song, “We Delight In You” to accompany our series on the Psalms.

On Thursday evenings the team engaged with devotionals encouraging each other to look full on the wonderful face of Jesus by incorporating devotional times led by Holly, Adaora, Donna Brown and Mel. We shared praises and prayer requests, praying for each other and over Neighborhood Church.

Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes!
Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals.
Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD ! Praise the LORD !
Psalm 150: 4-6

We are thankful to have a truly multigenerational team with middle school, high school and adult volunteers working together to make our Sunday services in person and online possible. We are excited to announce that Sydney Bubb began training to run presentation! Devin will continue to come out to practices to learn the sound board with Bryan. We are praying for God to bring more workers to serve Him at Neighborhood Church Shady Grove and Neighborhood Church Rockville!

BECAUSE of God’s faithfulness, our Worship & Production Team is living on mission as a multi-
ethnic, multigenerational team being transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and inviting the Neighborhood Church family to be launched on mission with them!

NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS
Leader: Pam Homan, Matt Sale & Mark Trinkl, [email protected]
A place for making friends, inviting God's transformation through Scripture and prayer, and being launched on mission together.

During the summer months, May through August, Neighborhood Groups are in recess. Several groups have signed up to serve at the Derwood Farmer's Market as an opportunity to serve together.

Triads started on June 1. Triads are an intentional relationship with Jesus and three individuals as part of the Discipleship Pathway at Neighborhood Church. The format includes daily shared Scripture reading and meeting together throughout the summer, whether in person or online. There are nine Triads meeting over the summer months.

The summer Women's Book Club will also started on June 1. The women will read and discern together the book, “Closer than your Next Breath: Where is God When You Need Him Most?” by Susie Larson. The book club will meet four times over the summer months.

GREEN HOUSE CHURCH PLANT
Devin Calhoun, [email protected]
Neighborhood Church Vision: Launch Multiple Gatherings in Multiple Locations (Acts 2:42-47)

This past May has been an exciting and busy month for us here at Neighborhood Church. We launched the 8th year of the Derwood Farmer’s Market which continues to be an amazing time where we get to serve our neighbors and introduce people to Jesus right here on our own property. At the Market this past month we also hosted the Strawberry festival, a wonderful time celebrating the start of the fresh strawberry season with music, fun, and most importantly strawberry themed dishes. We are in need of more volunteers this summer to help us show the love of Jesus right to our own neighbors so please get signed up!

Connected with the market we have also developed a quick survey for all our volunteers after the market to take so that we can better know how to improve and to continue stewarding this ministry of the Neighborhood Church well. As you volunteer this summer please don’t forget to fill out that survey.

In the world of Church Planting, the members of our church planting core team went down to Rockville Town Square to hand out gift cards and connect with people about Jesus. We were able to pray with people, share our faith, and stir up excitement about what God is doing in Rockville. We also have started exploring partnerships with other organizations as we look to connect and partner with organizations to make the most Kingdom impact.

Finally, I, along with others from our staff, got the chance to travel to Columbus, Ohio to the Christian and Missionary Alliance General Council where C&MA Official Workers from all around the world come together to worship, discuss the direction of our movement and commission and send out workers into the Lord’s Harvest field. This year we elected a new President of the C&MA. It was an amazing time where I was able to reconnect with people from the past and foster new relationships with other people working in the Kingdom of God.

Here at Neighborhood Church, we define our Discipleship Pathways as: To have holistically healthy (head, heart, hands) disciples of Jesus who multiply disciples and churches. This will be done through Sunday Sermons, Neighborhood Groups, and Triads. We are excited to see this journey continue of making disciples. Our next Board meeting will be June 9th.
