NOTE FROM ERIC PEACOCK WHILE PASTOR MARK IS ON SABBATICAL JUNE: June has been an exciting month as we transition into summer. School has ended for our students, summer break has officially begun, and we're already seeing more young adults as our college students return home for the season. Around Neighborhood Church, there is so much life. Our Triad Groups are in full swing, and the Farmers Market has returned, bringing vendors, neighbors, and families together each week. It's exciting to see our campus filled with activity and opportunities to connect with our community. As you think about how you'll invest your time this summer, I encourage you to take advantage of all that's happening at Neighborhood Church. One opportunity I especially want to highlight is serving at the Farmers Market. The work isn't difficult, but the impact can be significant. If you're simply willing to show up, lend a hand, and be friendly, you'll often find that meaningful conversations happen naturally. Summer isn't a season to disengage from your faith—it's an opportunity to take your faith outside the walls of the church and into our neighborhood. My prayer is that this summer would be filled with genuine relationships and conversations that naturally point people to Jesus. JULY: July has been an exciting month as we’ve continued to enjoy all that summer has to offer at Neighborhood Church! On Sunday mornings, we’ve continued our summer series through the book of Philippians, “Jesus Is Enough: Finding Joy in the Journey.” We’ve been blessed by encouraging messages from Tim Allen, Natalie, and Mel Neely, each reminding us that true joy is found in Christ regardless of our circumstances. Our Triad Groups continue to meet, providing opportunities to grow deeper in faith and relationship with one another. In addition, our weekly Farmers Market is in full swing, creating meaningful opportunities to serve our community and build connections with our neighbors. There are many ways to get connected at Neighborhood Church. Here are three simple ways to take your next step:
MINISTRIESNEIGHBORHOOD KIDS Leader: Karin Sauder, [email protected] A safe place for children to meet Jesus, know Jesus & learn to share Jesus. JUNE: Neighborhood Kids was busy this June! We started our very first Parents Meet Up group at Blueberry Hill Park on Saturdays (thank you to Tim and Linnea Allen for organizing this!) We also enjoyed our Summer Social with water activities and a moon bounce and a picnic. It was a fun evening for all who came out to join us. We continued with our Kids Tent at the Farmer’s Market; thank you to the Philip-Vannella family for volunteering to help with that again! As you can see, our volunteers are SO important to us to keep Neighborhood Kids and our parent community healthy and happy. Why not join us?? JULY: This month, Neighborhood Kids has been studying the book of Daniel and the exile of the Israelites, and how God brought the Israelites back home. The stories in the book of Daniel are very exciting! Thank you to Nurten Karasen and Donna Brown for volunteering for our Patriotic Kid’s tent at the Farmer’s Market on a very HOT 4th of July! Another fun thing that happened this month was a presentation by Faith Mercurio, a missionary in the country of Jordan. She told us all about the work she does there, and even brought us some candy from Jordan to try. Finally, we want to say congratulations to David and Hilary Chiu on the birth of their son, Tony! He joins big brother Dawson and big sister Lily. We are looking forward to meeting him soon! NEIGHBORHOOD YOUTH Leader: Eric Peacock, [email protected] A place where teens belong, believe (in Jesus) and become (all that God has intended for them to be). JUNE: In June, we started our new Summer series, "School's Out!" This series challenges students to think intentionally about how they use their time and freedom during the summer months. Through lessons centered on friendship, serving others, consistency, entertainment, and spiritual thirst, we are encouraging students to stay spiritually engaged and continue growing in their faith throughout the summer season. Mark and Mel Neely graciously hosted a pool party at their house, the week after school let out for the summer. It was a great time of fun, food, fellowship, and building relationships. The event provided students with an opportunity to connect with one another and kick off the summer together in a positive and encouraging environment. JULY: During the month of July, Neighborhood Youth continued our summer series, School's Out! So far, we've covered topics such as "What Will You Do with Your Time?", "Friends," and "I'm Bored." We also had an International Worker join us to share what God is doing through them and their family, helping our students grow in their understanding of God's work around the world. As we wrap up July, we'll enjoy separate boys' and girls' kayaking trips—a great opportunity for fun, fellowship, and building relationships. Looking ahead to August, we'll kick off the month with a trip to Hershey Park and a community outreach initiative. Stay tuned for more details! WORSHIP & PRODUCTION TEAM Leader: Mel Neely, [email protected] We are a diverse community of followers of Jesus Christ, empowered by His Spirit with one heart and one mind to invite and lead in declaring His worth. The Neighborhood Church Worship & Production team also continues to lift high the name of Jesus through our in person and online services. JUNE: This June, Mel Neely and Adaora led worship during our Sunday services along with our dedicated team of instrumentalists and vocalists. On Thursday evenings the team engaged with devotionals encouraging each other to look full on the wonderful face of Jesus by incorporating devotional times led by Mel and Eric. We shared praises and prayer requests, praying for each other and over Neighborhood Church. Mel, Evan, Donna, Richard, Eric and Holly provided music at our Derwood on Saturday, June 27! It was a beautiful opportunity to Speak Jesus over our neighbors, vendors, volunteers and church family. At the market, we were able to share the new to Neighborhood Church song, Run to Father that we introduced from Father's Day. https://youtu.be/HcpeLDp0Foo?is=Rt38D8pu_yZMgD2q The team is grateful for the new sanctuary and stage carpet and adjusting to the new layout with the keyboard up front and drums moved up on stage! We are ready if we are able to move forward with a LED screen. We are thankful to have a truly multigenerational team with middle school, high school and adult volunteers working together to make our Sunday services in person and online possible. We are praying for God to bring more workers to serve Him at Neighborhood Church! Vance Newsome continues to cross train with the Production team. He finished his LiveStream training with Solomon Jack and is now running solo! He has another session or two with Bryan Patton for audio and will be solo before we know it. We are praying for God to bring more workers to serve Him at Neighborhood Church on our Production Team as Honna Trinkl and Landon Neely head off to college next month! They have been a huge asset this summer. Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals. Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD ! Praise the LORD! Psalm 150: 4-6 BECAUSE of God's faithfulness, our Worship & Production Team is living on mission as a multi-ethnic, multigenerational team being transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and inviting the Neighborhood Church family to be launched on mission with them! NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS Leader: Pam Homan, Matt Sale & Mark Trinkl, [email protected] A place for making friends, inviting God's transformation through Scripture and prayer, and being launched on mission together. JUNE & JULY: There are five Triads that are meeting from the end of May through the first week of August. A Triad is an intentional relationship with you, Jesus, and two other people as part of the Discipleship Pathway to have holistically healthy (head, heart, hands) disciples of Jesus who multiply disciples and churches at Neighborhood Church. This relationship is not meant to fix your problems, give advice, or diagnose. Triads will be reading and meditating on the book of Philippians in conjunction with the Sunday morning messages. The summer women's book club started on May 31. We are reading the book "Invitation to Retreat." In our last church-wide survey, the practice of silence and solitude ranked the highest as a spiritual practice that people want to grow in over the next six months. This book will guide us through the practice of retreat. We will then offer a women's silent retreat to practice the discipline of silence and solitude. Even if you are not participating in the book club, you can go on the retreat. The small group for parents, God's Character & Parenting, continued to meet throughout June & July on Saturdays at Blueberry Hill Park. Throughout the week, the group studied Bible Project’s “Character of God Word Study” and shared thoughts, reflections & questions with one another through a What’s App group. (Acts 1:8) JUNE: - El Salvador fundraisers, thank you for the support! - Engaging in our local/global partners - Farmer’s Market is in full swing! JULY: -We sent the team to El Salvador! The Lord worked and we are looking forward to continuing our partnership with Envision: El Salvador! -We are about half way through the Farmers Market! The Elders continue to meet on the first Saturday of the month for prayer and shepherding the church. Please know, we are here for prayer or other needs. BOARD OF GOVERNANCE (BOG) Mark Trinkl (Chair), Solomon Jack (Vice Chair), Matt Sale (Treasurer), Sarah Luse (Secretary), Pam Homan, Mark Neely, Kyle Ott The Board of Governance (BOG) sets boundaries for the Pastor. JUNE: The Board met on June 8 to review our Guiding Principles and discuss how we provide both accountability and support through our leadership structure. These guiding principles clarify the roles within Neighborhood Church: the Board governs, the Lead Pastor leads, the staff manages ministry operations, and the congregation carries out the work of ministry. In addition, the Board reviewed the church's financial health, discussed ongoing property improvements, and continued conversations about the future vision of Neighborhood Church. Please continue praying that God would give our Board wisdom, discernment, and unity as they faithfully steward the responsibilities He has entrusted to them. JULY: Finally, we are excited to welcome Pastor Mark back from his sabbatical in August. We look forward to hearing how God has refreshed, encouraged, and spoken to him during this season of rest, and we’re excited for all that God has in store for Neighborhood Church in the months ahead.
