Note From Pastor Mark. Thank you again to the church for the month sabbatical during July. It was truly a time of rest and refreshment. There was a good mix of time alone to seek God, time with family, at home, and away. I am reminded that God created us human beings and not human doings. Yes, we are designed for work but also for rest. For some of you, there is a need to learn different rhythms that lead to better health. I am also coming back with questions for you, the church, and for me. The Questions are, What is the potential God has put in you? And how can I live into this full potential? The same question can be asked of you, your family, the church and more. My prayer is that we discover this answer and then relentlessly pursue God and his purposes for us. I have now been back for a month and am grateful to see how people stepped up in my absence and also all the work that continued. The great preaching on Sundays, The Farmers Market, A mission trip to El Salvador, Triads, Neighborhood Kids and Youth, and so much more. You are being the church and I believe we have some blue sky in front of us. God is moving at Neighborhood church. There is a sense of excitement and life in the air and as we enter into the Fall season, I believe God wants to continue to form you into a healthy follower of Jesus as you are transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and launched on mission. I encourage you in this season to jump into all that is happening at Neighborhood Church. The Big Three ways to do this are: Come Every Sunday - Make it a priority to attend church every Sunday. Be Part of a Group (Groups are starting on Sept 13th! ) -Navigate the ups and downs of life with others. Neighborhood Kids had our very first parenting class this month: “Creating Godly Character in our Children”. Thanks to the parents who participated with us! We are also very excited about our renovated kid’s spaces, thanks to Levi Neely and his Eagle Scout project team. Come take a look at these new bright, clean rooms! The end of August brought Launch Up Sunday, where we said a sweet farewell to three of our Neighborhood Kids who are “graduating” up to Neighborhood Youth. It has been a wonderful busy month, and we are looking forward to more exciting things this fall! NEIGHBORHOOD YOUTH Leader: Eric Peacock, [email protected] A place where teens belong, believe (in Jesus) and become (all that God has intended for them to be). Neighborhood Youth kicked off the month with a trip to Hershey Park! The weather was perfect, and the students enjoyed a day full of fun and fellowship. We continued—and are now concluding—our summer series, School’s Out! Throughout the series, we explored topics such as Pool Party (Baptism): making a public declaration of faith through baptism. Karin Sauder, our Director of Children’s Ministry, taught on Amusement Park: What’s your source of entertainment? What amuses you? We also had our very own Pastor Mark teach Dehydrated: Finding Living Water in a dry land. As we wrap up August, we’ll have a game night where the youth can test their skills through some fun activities and friendly competition. Looking ahead to September, we’ll kick off our fall series, Back to the Basics, where we’ll explore the foundations of our faith—what we believe, why we believe it, and how to communicate and live out what we say we believe! WORSHIP & PRODUCTION TEAM Leader: Mel Neely, [email protected] We are a diverse community of followers of Jesus Christ, empowered by His Spirit with one heart and one mind to invite and lead in declaring His worth. We will worship God as a way of life. (Colossians 3:17) The Neighborhood Church Worship & Production team also continues to lift high the name of Jesus through our in person and online services. This June, Mel Neely, Daniel Akinsola and Adaora led worship during our Sunday services along with our dedicated team of instrumentalists and vocalists. On Thursday evenings the team engaged with devotionals encouraging each other to look full on the wonderful face of Jesus by incorporating devotional times led by Mel and Eric focused on our Jesus Is Enough and Restore sermon series. We shared praises and prayer requests, praying for each other and over Neighborhood Church. Save the date to join us at this beautiful opportunity to Speak Jesus over our neighbors, vendors, volunteers and church family. Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals. Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD ! Praise the LORD ! Psalm 150: 4-6 We are thankful to have a truly multigenerational team with middle school, high school and adult volunteers working together to make our Sunday services in person and online possible. Vance Newsome is officially fully trained to serve solo on Livestream and Audio! Thank you, Vance, Solomon and Bryan for your training investment. We say goodbye to our audio volunteers, Honna Trinkl and Landon Neely as they head off to college and look forward to them coming back to serve on school breaks. We are praying for God to bring more workers to serve Him at Neighborhood Church! BECAUSE of God's faithfulness, our Worship & Production Team is living on mission as a multi-ethnic, multigenerational team being transformed by Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit and inviting the Neighborhood Church family to be launched on mission with them! The summer Triads completed meeting together in August. The summer women's book club had its last gathering on August 30. The book "Invitation to Retreat. guided us through the practice of silent retreat. There are still a few spots available for the women's silent retreat, September 18-20. where women will practice together the discipline of silence and solitude. Even if you didn't participate in the book club, you are welcome to attend the retreat. (Acts 1:8) We are continuing to invest in our local and global partners, specifically highlighting this month the Shady Grove Pregnancy Center drive at the Farmer’s Market. This is my last month writing the month in review for missions as I step off of staff to prepare for what is next. I will still be around the church and involved, but the capacity will look different. Leader: Mark Trinkl, [email protected] The staff manages Neighborhood Church’s ministry teams. The month of August has had a series of transitions on staff. Linnea is on maternity leave until November as her and Tim welcomed baby Benjamin. Vance Newsome is filling in for Linnea while she is on leave…and he is doing a great job. Natalie has transitioned off of staff at the end of August and is now focused on preparing to be sent internationally. She will still be around the church but in a different capacity. Eric, Mel, Karin and Dana continue to serve fearlessly and faithfully and Praise God for healthy staff that love Jesus and people and are committed to seeing Neighborhood Church Thrive. Please pray for God's protection and empowerment for the staff as they are on the frontlines of ministry. The Elders continue to meet on the first Saturday of the month for prayer and shepherding the church. Please know, we are here for prayer or other needs. BOARD OF GOVERNANCE (BOG) Mark Trinkl (Chair), Solomon Jack (Vice Chair), Matt Sale (Treasurer), Sarah Luse (Secretary), Pam Homan, Mark Neely, Kyle Ott The Board of Governance (BOG) sets boundaries for the Pastor. The Board of Governance will meet on September 14th for their quarterly meeting. The Focus of the meeting is Monitoring Performance of the Lead Pastor. They will also be talking about the budget and current financial trends. Please be praying for wisdom to govern well and faith to believe God for all he has for Neighborhood Church.
